Go into My computer, then Dial-up
Networking. Right click on your ISP's connection,
select Properties.
- Under the General
tab, untick
the Use area code & dialling properties,
assuming you are calling a local number to connect.
- Under the Server
types tab, untick
all boxes except TCP/IP (&
IPX/SPX compatible
if needed & IPX/SPX is installed).
- Tick, Enable software compression only if you have a Winmodem,
otherwise leave it unticked.
Non-Winmodems can do hardware compression, which will
free up the CPU from doing that task.
- For Types of dial-up
servers choose PPP: Internet, Windows NT server,
Windows 98(95).
- Select the TCP/IP
settings button & select Server
assigned IP address (As mentioned earlier for
TCP/IP advanced properties). Also select Specify
name server addresses if you have the servers
IP address (most likely it’ll already be filled in
& selected). Untick, Use IP header compression
(tick it if you
don’t play games much online). Ignore Use
default gateway on remote network. Click Ok.
Click
the Scripting tab, then Edit.
If the script has a "delay" value in it, you
should try lowering its value. My default script had a delay
3 in it. I've changed it to 1. This may be useful for
some users. Save the changes you've made to it, & click Ok
(If unsure you can change it back to the default number the
same way). You can download my password
authentication script
here. Only try this script if you
currently don’t have one. If you experience problems with
it don’t use it.
