LiPS joins with LiMO
Consolidation is the word for two groups that both pushed Linux for mobile devices. Linux Phone Standards will be joining forces with the Linux Mobile Foundation, narrowing the focus of both groups into a single goal. Their aim is to get more interest in the developer community to increase adoption of Linux-based mobile devices, due to heavier competition from big industry players like Google and Nokia.
They aim to further their standardization efforts to make a unified platform that is attractive, and though there is steep competition, the LiMO foundation does plan to have devices based upon their platform in the market before the year is through. That will be definitely tough, especially since both Android and Symbian have promises of being open platforms.

so that still gives LiMO an advantage... I think once you can choose an OS to put on your phone (by yourself) it'll change the mobile computing world. |
