C&C2: Tiberian Sun review
Posted by Thomas McGuire on September 13, 1999
No doubt of it, Command & Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun is one of the most anticipated games to be released this year. Surrounding this anticipation has been hype. Does it live up to the hype generated? Well.... kinda.
The version I have is the Platinum Edition, coming in a nice tin foil like box & a few extras, like the soundtrack on CD, different manual & a pewter model, in my case a GDI soldier.
Story
Kane is back. If you are GDI it’s up to you to well kill him, if you are NOD you want to defeat GDI. Sounds the same as the original Command & Conquer, doesn’t it. Well it is. That said the movies in the game are better than ever. The game is just as plot driven as ever. Michael Biehn & James Earl Jones appearing for the GDI side. Meanwhile NOD has, well Kane of
course. That said impressive (& expensive) movies isn’t what people are going to buy the game for.
Manual
The manual is quite sufficient giving the obligatory background information/history of some characters & the world that you are in. Some information on units is available as well. Pretty much the same as the Red Alert manual in most respects.
Controls
The controls are the exact same as before in literally all respects. Any Red Alert player or even C&C player can simply install the game & play it without looking at the manual. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t a bad thing; its good to see the game hasn’t
been cluttered with pointless extra “buttons”. There are some nice new additions though, the new way point system is great & makes patrols easy to setup. Another useful command is the “Toggle power mode” one. Useful if you need to power down some buildings to let more resource intensive units run.
