Intel to releases six Havendales at launch
The upcoming Havendale-core processors from Intel, which use the Nehalem architecture, have several variants planned. At least six different models will be released to begin with, according to recent reports, with a wide price range between them to target different markets.
At the lowest end of the spectrum, the parts will go for an estimated $90, topping out at around $279. The price gap will let a single CPU target multiple sections of the CPU market, which various types of the Core 2 and Core 2 Duo have done well. They are definitely keeping the heat on AMD.
The Havendale processors will feature a Platform Controller Hub, Intel's successor in the ICH lineup. It will replace the ICH9, and will remove the need for a northbridge due to the higher level of integration on the CPU. These CPUs will likely be released under the Core brand.

Simply stated, it's a 45nm Core 2 Duo desktop processor with an integrated graphical core (iGFX) and support for DDR3 RAM. That sounds like some nifty features. This chip will require a new motherboard with an LGA 1160 interface. |
