Microsoft to support XP into 2014

Microsoft won't be dropping support for Windows XP anytime soon, and has recently announced that they will actually commit to support the OS into 2014. That will be 13 years after XP was originally released, and while it seems like a long time it is actually only a three-year extension compared to their previous operating systems.

The extended support for XP is undoubtedly driven by the fervor of many businesses and people upset over the cost of upgrading to Vista, for both the OS itself and the more powerful hardware required, along with the numerous deployment issues which still linger in some areas today. They will also still be supporting the “downgrading” of Vista to XP, an option that may cost more for some but may be worth it to them.

If only they would release a smaller slim Vista. Or atleast a smaller slim next OS.

a barebones OS from M$ would be nice. Most gamers don't care for all the extra bloat installed into most OSs these days.

Most gamers would kill for a non-M$ OS they could game on ... I would've hoped by now some overly smart coder would have developed it already.

DirectX is owned by MS, I believe, and most games run on it, so creating an OS for gamers in which DirectX or a plug-in like version would be very hard for any sort of developer to accomplish without M$ a...t..t..a.cking....! However, I do remember a few months ago seeing an OS dedicated to gaming only, not sure when, if it would come out.
